Lonely widow found joy again when an unexpected visitor stopped by
Ever since Sally’s husband died almost 30 years ago, she’s been finding life very lonely. But when her neighbors adopted a very special puppy, everything changed.
In the presence of this couple, it becomes a delightful challenge to determine who possesses more charm: 93-year-old Sally or 1-year-old Brody. Together, their companionship forms a heartwarming spectacle that brings joy to all who witness it.
Sally, now 93 years old, experienced the loss of her husband back in 1990. For the past 15 years, she has resided next to her neighbor, Dave Mazarella, in Mt. Vernon, Washington. Throughout their time as neighbors, Sally has become acquainted with all of Dave’s dogs, but none have captured her heart quite like Brody, his 1-year-old Saint Bernard.
Sally eagerly shared with TODAY that Brody, who boasts a popular Instagram account, had already paid her a visit earlier in the day. “He came over this morning with Dave,” she enthusiastically shared. “Oh, he’s such a sweetheart! I even offered him a crust of bread for breakfast.”
Brody and Sally cross paths multiple times throughout the day, and it’s evident that they bring joy and brightness to each other’s lives.
“Brody would often wander over to her house,” Mazarella explained. “And then she started giving him snacks.”
From that point on, their bond grew stronger. Now, they embark on walks to church, watch the news together, and share moments while reading the daily newspaper.
“From the moment he sees me, he’s filled with happiness,” Sally expressed. “Brody truly loves me, and Dave believes it’s because of my voice.”
Sally immigrated to Washington in 1952, but her fondness for animals was nurtured during her youth on her family’s farm in Holland. It seems that her connection with Brody taps into those cherished memories and appreciation for animals.
Sally is blessed with four children, although only one resides close by. Despite the distance, she maintains frequent communication with all of her children, and they share in the delight of witnessing the heartwarming images of Sally and Brody together, just like the rest of us.
This delightful duo has a remarkable ability to bring joy to the hearts of those around them. Sally believes that her positive personality may have played a role in her long and fulfilling life.
“My father always said that I brought joy from the moment I was born,” she reflected. “I’ve encountered a few setbacks along the way, but I always manage to bounce back.”
